- New report finds PrEP awareness is high but access is low, as global HIV funding shrinks Grindr steps up
Today at the 2026 International AIDS Conference, Grindr for Equality (https://www.grindr.com/g4e) committed to connecting ten million LGBTQ+ people to HIV prevention by 2028, leveraging its platform reach to advance the global effort to end HIV by 2030.
The commitment is rooted in Closing the Gap (https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/641dc6058ca7b72a1422b5d7/6a5af055ad1fba9031d56da5_AIDS%20CONF%202026.pdf), a new Grindr for Equality report drawing on survey data from Grindr users across ten countries. The central finding is consistent across countries: people know about PrEP but they are not taking it. The barrier is access and the funding that existed to address it is disappearing.
“Connecting people is what Grindr does at a scale and in communities that traditional public health systems don't effectively reach,” said George Arison, CEO and Chairman of Grindr (NYSE: GRND). “The global HIV response is losing critical funding at the exact moment we should be accelerating to end HIV by 2030. Fifteen million people use Grindr every month across 190 countries. In many of those markets, Grindr is already one of the primary sources of sexual health information available. Every user will now have a direct in-app pathway to information about and referrals to locally available HIV prevention services, including testing, PrEP, doxyPEP, and emerging tools where clinically appropriate and available, powered by the local, in-country nonprofits, clinics, and community organizations Grindr for Equality partners with to reach the people who need them most.
Grindr for Equality has spent a decade building the infrastructure behind this commitment: more than 1,200 in-app campaigns in 2025 alone, across 185 community organizations in 71 countries and 40 languages. More than 600,000 HIV self-tests distributed in-app since 2022. This commitment builds on this foundation. When someone wants to find sexual health services, Grindr should be one of the easiest places to start.
